Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup Crisco shortening chilled
  • 4 –6 tablespoons cold water

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt.
  • Cut in the Crisco shortening using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually add cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing gently with a fork until the dough holds together.
  • Divide the dough into two balls, flatten slightly into discs, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  • On a floured surface, roll out the dough to fit your pie dish (about 1/8 inch thick).
  • Place the dough into the pie dish, trim edges, and crimp as desired.
  • If pre-baking, prick the bottom with a fork and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 12–15 minutes or until golden.
