Ingredients
  

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • Red food coloring optional for decoration
  • 1 cup heavy cream for frosting
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar for frosting

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two cake pans.
  • Cream the butter and sugar together in a bowl until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with milk. Mix until smooth.
  • Add a few drops of red food coloring if desired, and stir until evenly combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let the cakes cool completely before frosting with whipped cream mixed with powdered sugar.
